Slow Road to Dakar - NH

A Roadbook Adventure Experience - in association with 186 ADV

What if you could experience a taste of Dakar….. without racing, without pressure, and without needing to be a professional?

What It Is

Slow Road to Dakar is a self guided roadbook adventure where you and your partner navigate your own route using the same style of navigation used in the Dakar Rally.

Think geocaching or orienteering, on wheels. With a Dakar-style roadbook, you navigate an unknown & unmarked route, finding hidden waypoints along the way, no GPS, just you, your partner, and your navigation skills.

A roadbook is a step-by-step navigation guide that tells you how to find your way along a route, without using GPS maps. Instead of showing you a map, it gives you a sequence of instructions, usually in the form of simple diagrams (called tulips), notes, and distances.(Don't worry, you will receive training on how to read and understand the roadbook, its part of the fun!)

No racing.
No time pressure.
Just you, your vehicle, and the journey ahead.

How It Works

You arrive at a beautiful central location—think a lodge, farm, or gathering point.

We start with a short, easy-to-understand introduction to roadbook navigation. No experience needed.

Then you head out.

  • You follow a digital roadbook on your phone or tablet
  • You drive at your own pace
  • You navigate your way through scenic dirt roads, landscapes, and hidden routes

It’s not about speed, it’s about figuring it out, working together, and enjoying the experience.

Who It’s For

  • You don’t need rally experience
  • You don’t need a race car
  • You don’t need to be “hardcore”

If you have:

  • A sense of adventure
  • A vehicle (4x4 or even 2WD depending on the route)
  • And someone to share it with…

You’re exactly who this is for.

What Makes It Special

This isn’t a tour, and it’s not a race.

It’s something in between.

  • You’re not following a guide → you’re finding your own way
  • You’re not competing → you’re experiencing
  • You’re not being rushed → you’re immersed

Every turn becomes a small decision.
Every correct call feels like a win.

The Experience

  • The quiet focus of navigating together
  • The moment you realize you’re on the right track
  • The wrong turns (and the laughs that come with them)
  • The landscapes you would never normally find

And at the end of the day…….everyone comes back together around the camp fire under the stars.

Stories get shared. Mistakes become highlights. And the adventure continues off the road.

Why You’ll Love It

Because it’s different.

Because it challenges you, just enough.
Because it’s something you’ll talk about long after it’s over.

And because, for a moment… you get to feel what it’s like to be part of something bigger,  your own road to Dakar.

This Is Just the Beginning

Whether it’s your first time or your fifth, every route is different.

Every experience is new.

And every journey starts the same way:

You turn the page… and go.
